Satellite Navigation Systems and Global Positioning Systems
The application from the use of Satellite Navigation (SAT NAV) is derived from the Global Positioning Systems
(GPS). GPS utilises a constellations of at least 24 medium earth orbit satellites transmitting microwaves signals,
it helps a GPS receiver determine its location, speed and direction.
This signals are then translated into a clever collaboration of road maps directing you to your intended
destination and displaying your ongoing journey.
GPS has become part and parcel of our everyday lives, through the use of Satellite Navigation (SAT NAV).
Features and benefits of the Satellite Navigation system.(SAT NAV)
- Allow you to plan your journey. SAT NAV can help you determine the best route to a specific location. It
takes away the frustration of losing your way and stop you from taking a longer route. Gives flexibility of
changing route when the traffic is heavy.
- Easy to set up. SAT NAV can be powered by electricity sources in a home or office, powered in car through
the car's cigarette lighter unit.
- Setting of route is easy either by postcode, street name , town or address itself.
- Wide and bright screen with the actual route information gives user advance notification of the route
ahead
- Speed camera warning usually 500km before the onset of a speed camera.
- Ability to obtain live traffic updates to avoid upcoming traffic jams. (Live updates available through
subscriptions)
- Travelling to foreign countries eg Europe, is easier now with the availablity of the country's map
software. The roadmap of the different regions are usually stored in a memory card such as a SD card. Simply
slot the memory card into the machine and the roadmap can be viewed in the conventional view or 3D
view.
- Using Point of Interest to locate your desired destination is another useful feature found in most SAT NAV.
Point of Interest such as garage, restuarants, historical sites and airports are also incorporated in the SAT
NAV.
- Handheld GPS, mobile phone GPS and PDA are especially useful in the city amidst the cluster of roads and
highrise buildings.
